Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chickens
Provide the meat that is set in the dish and the bones that make the jelly.
Hard boiled eggs
Add body and texture as chopped pieces throughout the set mixture.

The step that matters

Boiling the bones to make the jelly. Long simmering of bones releases collagen, which turns into gelatin as it cools and lets the dish set firmly. Too little boiling leaves the mixture loose.

Swap the mace

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, allspice, clove, egg, lemon):

  1. Nutmegfits better
  2. Thymefits better
  3. Cinnamonfits better
  4. Macethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, allspice, clove, egg, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
