Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken
Provides the main protein; steaming until tender keeps the meat moist and easy to cube.
Celery
Adds a crisp texture that contrasts with the soft chicken.
Mayonnaise
Binds the salad and adds richness and moisture.
Grapes
Add a light sweetness and juiciness to the salad.

The step that matters

Drain and dry the celery. Excess surface water from the ice-chilled celery would dilute the mayonnaise and make the salad watery, so it should be fully dried before mixing.

Swap the grape

The recipe marks grape as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, celery, lettuce):

  1. Avocadofits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Lemonfits better
  4. Grapethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, celery, lettuce. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
