What each ingredient does

Tomatoes
Form the shell that holds the filling and softens into a juicy base as it bakes.
Bread crumbs
Absorb juices and bind the filling so it holds its shape when stuffed.
Minced beef
Provides the savory body and protein of the filling.
Butter
Adds richness and fat that carries flavour and helps the filling brown lightly.
