Stewed Apples

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Cut the apples in half and carefully peel them, leaving a thin strip of skin across the center.

  2. Place the apples core-side down in a shallow pan of boiling water and cook until tender.

  3. Carefully remove the apples to a glass dish without breaking them.

  4. Bring the syrup to a boil, sweeten, and thicken with a little gelatin; flavor with lemon or vanilla.

  5. When the syrup is about to become jelly, pour it over the apples and set aside to cool.

  6. Before serving, beat the egg whites with the powdered sugar and spread on top of the apples.
