Orange Pie

Oven, in the book's wordsA hot oven

Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a hot oven”. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Peel the oranges and slice them thin, removing the seeds.

  2. Pare and slice the apples very thin.

  3. Cover a pie plate with rich pastry and add a layer of oranges, sprinkling white sugar on top.

  4. Alternate layers of sliced apples and oranges, adding sugar to each layer until the pie plate is filled.

  5. Cover the pie with pastry and bake for 30 minutes at 400°F (200°C).

  6. Sift white sugar over the crust when baked.
