What each ingredient does

Green peppers
Provide the crisp, edible shell that holds the filling and gives the dish its structure.
Cottage cheese
Forms the cool, creamy filling that is pressed firmly into the peppers.
Tender lettuce
Adds a soft, cool bed beneath the slices and a fresh, mild crunch.
Salad dressing
Adds moisture and tang to the filled pepper slices when served.

The step that matters

Pressing the cottage cheese in firmly. Packing the filling firmly removes air pockets so the cheese holds its shape when chilled and when the peppers are cut into slices. Loose filling would crumble and spill out.

Swap the lettuce

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (pepper, cottage cheese):

  1. Spinachfits better
  2. Capsicumfits better
