Stuffed Tomatoes
Ingredients
Directions
The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Remove the skin and a part of the center from the tomatoes.
In a bowl, combine bread crumbs, coarse sea salt, black pepper, butter, and chopped onion.
Moisten the mixture with hot water and stir until combined.
Fill each tomato with the bread crumb mixture.
Place the stuffed tomatoes in a baking dish and bake for 45 minutes.
Transcribed from a scanned cookbook and modernised for today's kitchens. Where the book gave no heat or time, or said "a moderate oven", the temperatures and times here may be modern equivalents rather than the book's own figures.
