Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cornstarch
Thickens the lemonade mixture into a pudding-like consistency as it cooks.
Egg whites
Beaten until stiff, they add airy lightness to the pudding when folded in.
Bananas
Add flavor and body to the pudding once sliced into the mixture.

The step that matters

Fold in the beaten egg whites off the heat. Folding stiff whites into a hot cornstarch mixture gently keeps their air; if the mixture is too hot, the whites can cook and deflate, and overmixing knocks out the air.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, banana, cream, sugar):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Figfits better
  4. Orangethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, banana, cream, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
