  2. Remove from heat and let cool.

  3. Stir in the powdered sugar, butter, and beaten eggs.

Bake and serve

  2. Turn out and serve with wine sauce.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Macaroni
Softens as it simmers and gives the pudding its body and bite.
Milk
Provides the liquid base that the eggs set into a custard.
Eggs
Set when baked, binding the macaroni and milk into a firm pudding.
Butter
Adds fat for richness and a softer, more tender texture.
Powdered sugar
Sweetens the pudding and dissolves easily into the warm mixture.

The step that matters

Cool the mixture before adding the beaten eggs. Eggs scramble when they meet very hot liquid. Letting the macaroni mixture cool first keeps the eggs smooth so they blend in and set evenly in the oven.
