Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Brown sugar
Feeds the yeast and provides sweetness and fuel for fermentation.
Yeast
Ferments the sugar into carbon dioxide, which makes the drink fizzy.
Cream of tartar
Adds mild acidity that helps keep the brew tangy and balanced.
Pounded ginger
Contributes the characteristic spicy, aromatic flavour of the drink.

The step that matters

Cork the bottles tightly. Fermentation continues in the sealed bottles and produces carbon dioxide. If the corks are loose, the gas escapes and the drink stays flat; if sealed too tightly without pressure release, bottles can burst.

Swap the lemon

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, cream, ginger):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Coconutfits about as well
  3. Lemonthe original
  4. Orangefits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, cream, ginger. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
