Health Food Bread with Dates

Oven, in the book's wordsA moderate oven

Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a moderate oven”. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Mix sugar, lukewarm water, salt, and yeast cake until dissolved.

  2. Gradually add flour to form a kneadable dough.

  3. Knead the dough until smooth, then cover and let it rise until doubled in size.

  4. Punch down the dough, fold in the dates, and shape it into a loaf.

  5. Place the loaf in a buttered bread pan, let it rise again.

  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 50 minutes.
