What each ingredient does

Flour
Thickens the soup as it boils, giving it a more body.
Beef bone
Releases gelatin and flavour into the water during long simmering, enriching the broth.
Turnips
Soften during simmering and add sweetness and body to the broth.
Carrots
Soften during simmering and add natural sweetness to the broth.

The step that matters

Boil for 10 minutes after adding the flour mixture. Flour must boil to thicken properly and lose its raw starchy taste. Stirring the flour-water mixture in evenly first prevents lumps from forming in the soup.

Swap the onion
