What each ingredient does
- Finely ground coffee
- Provides the flavour compounds that the hot water dissolves out during brewing.
- Boiling water
- Extracts flavour and aroma from the grounds as it passes through them.
- Mocha coffee
- Adds its own flavour to the blend, combined with the Java coffee.
- Java coffee
- Forms the larger share of the blend, shaping the body and flavour of the cup.
The step that matters
Gradually pour boiling water over the coffee grounds. Pouring slowly and evenly lets the water saturate all the grounds, so flavour is extracted uniformly. A rushed pour can channel past some grounds and leave the coffee weak in places.
