Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cold roast or boiled fowl meat
Provides the main body of the dish, becoming the minced filling.
Cream
Adds richness and a smooth, silky texture to the gravy.
Butter
Adds fat and flavour, helping to enrich the sauce.
Flour
Thickens the gravy as it cooks, giving it body.
Hard-boiled eggs
Adds body and a rich, mild flavour to the minced mixture.

The step that matters

Stirring the thickened gravy until it boils. Flour must be cooked with the butter and liquid until boiling so it thickens smoothly and loses its raw starchy taste. Stopping early can leave lumps or a floury flavour.
