Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Hard-boiled eggs
Yolks blend with cream cheese to form the rich filling, while chopped whites add body to the base.
Neuchatel cream cheese
Adds creaminess and fat, binding the mashed yolks into a smooth, rollable paste.
Mayonnaise dressing
Adds moisture and richness, coating the salad just before serving so it does not soften early.

The step that matters

Just before serving, pour mayonnaise dressing over the salad.. Mayonnaise is an emulsion that can thin and weep liquid if left on the lettuce too long, making the greens soggy and the dish watery.

Swap the lettuce

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, cream cheese, pepper):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Chivefits better
  3. Spinachfits better
  4. Lettucethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, cream cheese, pepper. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
