Dressing or Stuffing for Fowls

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Remove the brown crust from stale bread until you have enough to fill the inside of a 1-pound loaf.

  2. Place the crusts in a dish and pour tepid water over them; let them soak for 1 minute.

  3. Squeeze the soaked bread hard to remove excess water and place it in another dish.

  4. Lightly toss the squeezed bread with your fingers.

  5. Add pepper, salt, summer savory, sage, melted butter, and the beaten egg (if using).

  6. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined.

  7. Use the stuffing to dress fowls, fish, or meats.
