Stuffed Tomatoes

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Cut a thin slice off the end of each tomato opposite the stem.

  3. Carefully remove the seeds and juice without breaking the tomatoes.

  4. In a bowl, mix the removed seeds and juice with bread crumbs, salt, pepper, minced onion, ham or tongue, and butter.

  5. Fill each tomato with the stuffing.

  6. Place the stuffed tomatoes in a deep baking dish.

  7. Cover them with a thin layer of the stuffing mixture and sprinkle dry crumbs on top.

  8. Bake for 45 minutes.
