Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Stale bread
Provides a firm base that holds the toppings while cooking.
Eggs
Set as they cook, forming a tender topping over the bread.
Foie gras
Melts into the warm bread, adding richness and fat.
Butter
Adds fat that browns the bread and carries flavour.

The step that matters

Cook the bread in a well-greased bag for 5 minutes. The bag must be well greased so the bread and butter do not stick, and the bag traps heat and moisture around the bread. Keep the timing in mind so the bread is partly cooked before the eggs go on.
