What each ingredient does

Live shrimps
Provide the main protein, which firms and turns opaque when cooked in the salted water.
Coarse sea salt
Dissolved in the boiling water to season the shrimp as they cook.

The step that matters

Boil the shrimp for 15 minutes. Boiling for the stated time cooks the shrimp through, firming the flesh. Cooking for too long makes shrimp tough and rubbery, so timing matters.
