Why it works: Sugar and syrup match in chemistry and in kitchens. They rank in the top 6% of all ingredient pairs, and cooks put them together in 5,842 recipes. Both carry ethanol, which smells alcoholic, ethereal. The science ↓

Artificial Strawberries

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Make almond paste and roll it into the size of a strawberry.

  2. Shape the almond paste in your hands to resemble a strawberry and insert a piece of whisk in the stalk-end.

  3. Place the prepared strawberries in a sieve filled with pounded sugar.

  4. Sift coarse sugar to remove dust and dip the strawberries into raspberry syrup.

  5. Coat the strawberries in sugar to form the little seeds.

  6. Once dry, use dissolved carmine in strong gum for coloring.
