Directions
The book says “a moderate oven”. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Roll out a sheet of puff pastry to about ⅛ inch thick, large enough to cover the tin.
Place a layer of Banbury meat on the pastry, about ½ inch thick.
Roll out another sheet of pastry to the same thickness and lay it over the top.
Trim the excess pastry from the sides and cut the top into small squares.
Bake in the preheated oven until done.
Dust the top well with loaf sugar as soon as it is done.
Transcribed from a scanned cookbook and modernised for today's kitchens. Where the book gave no heat or time, or said "a moderate oven", the temperatures and times here may be modern equivalents rather than the book's own figures.
