Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a slow oven”. The 300°F (150°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

Make the dough

  1. Combine powdered sugar and flour in a large bowl.

  2. Add ammonia and eggs, mixing until a stiff dough forms.

  3. Roll out the dough into a long sheet, 3½ inches wide and ⅓ inch thick.

Ice and cut

  1. Ice the top with egg icing.

  2. Cut into sticks about 1 inch wide.

  3. Let the sticks stand on pans for 3 hours.

Bake

  1. Bake in a slow oven at 300°F (150°C) until lightly golden.
