Burnt Sugar or Caramel Color

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Place 2 pounds of sugar in an old saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Stir the sugar with a spoon or stick as it starts to dissolve and smoke.

  3. Continue stirring until it becomes a mass of black, melted, and burnt sugar.

  4. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  5. Add a little water and stir until combined; do not make it too thin.

  6. Once cooled, pour the mixture into a bottle for use.
