Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Walnut kernels
Provide the main nutty flavour and body of the ice cream.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and lowers the freezing point, keeping the mixture softer.
Egg whites
Italian meringue whips into foam that lightens the texture.
Double cream
Whipped cream adds richness and a creamy, smooth mouthfeel.
Milk
Forms the liquid base that carries the walnut flavour.

The step that matters

Stirring while freezing the walnut milk. Stirring as the mixture freezes breaks up forming ice crystals. Without it, the ice cream becomes coarse and icy instead of smooth and creamy.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (milk, walnut, sugar, cream, egg):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Figfits better
  3. Coconutfits better
  4. Orangethe original
