What each ingredient does

Grapes
Provide the fruit flavour, natural sugar and the juice itself.
Water
Helps extract juice from the grapes and loosens the mixture during heating.

The step that matters

Straining through cheesecloth. Grape skins and pulp hold solids that cloud the juice and can leave grit. Straining while the mixture is hot lets the juice pass through more freely, and a fine cloth keeps the finished juice clear.
