Mustard Bath and Mustard Pack

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 100°F (38°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Dissolve the mustard powder in 1 gallon of warm water.

  2. Add more water to reach the desired temperature of about 100°F (38°C).

  3. For a mustard pack, use a smaller quantity of water prepared the same way.

  4. Soak a blanket in the mustard water and wrap it around the naked child.

  5. Leave the child in the pack for 10 to 20 minutes until the skin is reddened.

  6. Wash off with warm water, then rinse with lukewarm water, dry, and put to bed without dressing.
