What each ingredient does

Coffee
Provides the main flavour; its grounds are held in the muslin bag while hot water extracts them.

The step that matters

Pour the boiling water over the coffee gradually. Pouring slowly lets the water saturate the grounds evenly and extract flavour steadily. Pouring too fast can wash through weakly or leave the grounds unevenly brewed.
