Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Mutton loin
Provides the meat that is roasted and served as the main component.
Egg yolk
Adds richness and helps the crumbs adhere to the surface of the meat.
Bread crumbs
Form a crisp, browned crust on the outside of the meat as it roasts.
Fresh butter
Basting adds fat that promotes browning and a frothy, golden surface.

The step that matters

Basting with butter during roasting. Butter must be applied repeatedly so the crumb coating stays moist and browns evenly rather than burning or drying out before the meat is cooked through.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (mutton, egg, bread, butter):

  1. Nutmegfits about as well
