Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Mushrooms
Form the main body of the dish, softening as they stew in butter.
Butter
Carries flavor and moisture, enriching the mushrooms as they cook gently.
Clarified butter
Forms a sealed topping that excludes air over the pressed mushrooms.

The step that matters

Draining the mushrooms before pressing. Mushrooms release liquid as they cook; draining them well keeps the pressed mushrooms dense and prevents excess moisture from spoiling the seal of butter.

Swap the mace

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (mushroom, butter, pepper):

  1. Thymefits better
  2. Parsleyfits better
  3. Marjoramfits better
  4. Macethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against mushroom, butter, pepper. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
