Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Hare
Provides the main meat, which becomes tender and firm enough to pound into a paste.
Bacon
Adds fat and savory flavor that carries into the pounded meat.
Sherry
Adds acidity and aroma to the cooking liquid, deepening the flavor of the meat.

The step that matters

Stew gently until the meat separates from the bones. Slow, gentle heat breaks down connective tissue so the meat becomes tender. Boiling hard toughens the muscle fibers and can leave the meat dry and stringy.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (clove, allspice, carrot, pepper, sherry):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Parsnipfits better
  3. Turnipfits better
  4. Onionthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against clove, allspice, carrot, pepper, sherry. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
