Fish Chowder

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Fry the salt pork in an iron pot until crisp, then remove it, leaving the fat.

  2. Layer fish, split crackers, sliced potatoes, chopped pork, black and red pepper, and chopped onions in the pot.

  3. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of bread crust on top.

  4. Cover with water and stew slowly until the fish is cooked through.

  5. Remove from heat, transfer to a serving dish, and keep warm.

  6. Thicken the gravy with rolled crackers or flour, boil once, and pour over the chowder.
