Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken
Provides the meat and flavor that form the body of the broth.
Water
Extracts flavor and gelatin from the chicken as it simmers.
Lemon peel
Adds aromatic citrus oil that brightens the broth.

The step that matters

Boil gently for a few minutes until the desired consistency is reached. Boiling hard can cloud the broth and emulsify fat into it, while gentle simmering keeps it clear. Stopping at the right point controls how concentrated and thick the liquid becomes.

Swap the nutmeg

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, lemon):

  1. Thymefits better
  2. Marjoramfits better
  3. Rosemaryfits better
  4. Nutmegthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
