Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Ground chuck
Provides the main meat body and fat that keep the meatballs juicy and rich.
Bread soaked in cream
Adds moisture that keeps the meatballs tender rather than dense.
Egg yolk
Binds the mixture so the meatballs hold their shape while cooking.
Parmesan cheese
Adds savory, salty flavor and helps with browning on the surface.
Marinara sauce
Supplies the tomato base and acidity that flavor the finished dish.

The step that matters

Browning the meatballs. Searing over medium heat until well browned on all sides builds savory flavor through the Maillard reaction and helps them hold their shape before simmering in sauce.
