Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Self-rising flour
Forms the dough's structure and helps it rise as it bakes.
Margarine
Adds fat that makes the dough tender and rich.
Feta cheese
Provides salty, tangy flavor that contrasts with the dough.
Cooked spinach
Supplies the green filling and moisture that the dough encloses.
Egg yolks
Bind the stuffing and brown the surface when brushed on top.

The step that matters

Bake until golden. The egg yolk glaze browns through the Maillard reaction, so the puffs need to be watched closely. Leaving them in too long dries the dough and filling.

Swap the sesame

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (flour, cheese, spinach, egg):

  1. Chickpeafits better

Fit is the average pairing score against flour, cheese, spinach, egg. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
