Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Hot cooked rice
Forms the base of the salad and absorbs the dressing's flavor.
Vinaigrette dressing
Adds acidity and moisture that season the rice and keep it from drying out.
Cooked crab meat
Provides the main protein and its delicate sweet flavor.
Sliced fresh mushrooms
Adds earthy flavor and a tender, moist texture.
Sliced ripe olives
Contributes salty, briny flavor and richness.

The step that matters

Cool the dressed rice before adding the vegetables. Warm rice softens fresh vegetables and can wilt them, and it may cause the dressing to separate or become greasy. Cooling it first keeps the salad fresh-textured and well balanced.

Swap the onion
