Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken breasts
Provides the main protein, which becomes tender as it simmers in the sauce.
Coconut milk
Adds fat and richness, giving the sauce a creamy body.
Tomatoes
Contribute acidity and body, thickening the sauce as they cook down.
Onions
Soften and sweeten as they sauté, forming the base flavour of the sauce.
Olive oil
Carries the aromatics and conducts heat for the initial sauté.

The step that matters

Sauté the onions gently until soft and transparent. Cooking onions slowly lets their sugars caramelise gently and softens them fully, so they blend smooth and sweet rather than sharp or gritty.
