What each ingredient does

Rice
Forms the starchy base layer that soaks up moisture from the beans and vegetables.
Yogurt
Adds creaminess and tang to the drizzled topping, balancing the spiced beans.
Chili spiced beans
Provide the main protein, bulk and savory flavor of the casserole.
Corn
Adds sweetness and tender texture to the layers.
Zucchini
Contributes moisture and soft, tender body as it bakes.
Onion and garlic
Sautéing softens them and builds a sweet, aromatic savory base.

The step that matters

Cover and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes or until heated thoroughly. Covering traps steam so the layers heat evenly and the zucchini and rice stay moist. Bake until the centre is hot throughout, since the dish is meant to be heated through, not just warmed on top.

Swap the clove

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (rice, yogurt, sauce, onion, garlic, white wine, corn):

  1. Cuminfits better
  2. Corianderfits better
  3. Turmericfits better
  4. Clovethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against rice, yogurt, sauce, onion, garlic, white wine, corn. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
