Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sweetened condensed milk
Provides the sugar and moisture that set into a soft, creamy fudge when cooled.
Semi-sweet chocolate chips
Form the chocolate layer and add rich cocoa flavour and body when melted.
Butterscotch chips
Melt into a sweet, buttery-flavoured top layer that contrasts with the chocolate.
Walnuts
Add crunch and a toasty, nutty contrast to the soft fudge.

The step that matters

Melting the butterscotch mixture. Chips can scorch or seize if overheated, so melt in short bursts and stir until smooth. Heating too long can make the layer grainy or dull. Stirring spreads the heat evenly.
