Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Bind the mixture and help it set into a firm, sliceable bake.
Cooked rice
Forms the bulk and base structure of the bake.
Cheddar cheese
Adds richness and savoury flavour while helping the custard set.
Sour cream
Adds fat and moisture for a tender, creamy texture.
Milk
Loosens the egg mixture and adds moisture to the custard.
Brown sugar
Sweetens the topping and promotes browning on the surface.

The step that matters

Bake until a knife comes out clean. Eggs set as they cook, so underbaking leaves the custard loose and wet in the center, while overbaking can make it dry and rubbery. The knife test shows when the center has set.
