Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Set the filling into a firm, sliceable custard as they cook.
Cream cheese
Gives the filling its rich, dense body and creamy texture.
Sour cream
Adds moisture and tang, keeping the filling smooth and tender.
Graham cracker crumbs
Form the buttery base that holds the crust together once pressed and baked.
Sugar
Sweetens the filling and crust while helping to balance the tang of the sour cream.
Flour
Adds a little structure to the filling so it holds its shape when sliced.

The step that matters

Chill the cheesecake fully. The filling sets as it cools, so cutting too early can leave it soft and runny. Chilling for at least 4 hours, ideally overnight, lets the custard firm up for clean slices.
