What each ingredient does

Eggs
Bind the mixture together and help it set firmly as it bakes.
Cooked rice
Adds bulk and a tender texture that keeps the loaf from being dense.
Soft bread crumbs
Absorb liquid and add softness, helping the loaf hold moisture.
Chicken broth
Adds moisture to the mixture and to the sauce.
Cooked chicken
Provides the main protein and bulk of the loaf.

The step that matters

Pack the chicken mixture firmly into the pan. Firm packing removes large air pockets so the loaf holds its shape when sliced. Loose packing can cause the loaf to crumble or fall apart when it is unmolded.
