Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Carrots
Add body and natural sweetness to the soup as they soften and break down.
Potatoes
Starch thickens the broth and gives the puree a smooth, creamy body.
Sour cream
Adds richness and a tangy contrast to the smooth, hot soup.
Onion
Builds a savory, aromatic base as it softens in the fat.

The step that matters

Puree in batches. Filling a food processor too full and blending hot soup can force steam and liquid out of the lid, so work in small amounts and leave the vent open.

Swap the clove
