Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Shrimp
Cooks quickly into tender, delicate pieces that flavour the broth.
Tomatoes
Provide moisture, body and acidity that form the stew's base.
Potato
Thickens the broth slightly as it breaks down during simmering.
Baby clams
Add briny, savoury flavour to the stew.
Onion
Builds a sweet, savoury foundation when cooked in oil.

The step that matters

Simmer the shrimp only until pink. Shrimp turns firm and rubbery when overcooked. Brief heat sets the protein just until opaque, so the seafood stays tender in the hot stew.
