What each ingredient does

Lean ground beef
Provides the main protein and savory body of the casserole.
Mayonnaise
Adds fat and moisture that coat the rice and vegetables and keep the bake creamy.
Cooked rice
Gives the casserole bulk and soaks up the sauce as it bakes.
Tomatoes
Add moisture and acidity that brighten the rich, creamy mixture.
Corn chips
Form a crisp, golden topping through browning in the oven.

The step that matters

Pour off the fat after cooking the beef. Excess rendered fat left in the skillet would make the casserole greasy and loose, and the mayonnaise base would separate or thin. Draining it keeps the filling creamy and well set.

Swap the clove

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (beef, garlic, lemon, pepper, sauce, rice, tomato):

  1. Corianderfits better
  2. Oreganofits better
  3. Parsleyfits better
  4. Clovethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against beef, garlic, lemon, pepper, sauce, rice, tomato. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
