Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Bell peppers
Hollow shells that hold the filling and soften as they bake.
Ground beef
Provides the savory, browned base and body of the filling.
Mushrooms
Add moisture and savory depth to the filling as they cook down.
Cooked rice
Bulks up the filling and absorbs the juices from the vegetables and broth.
Chicken broth
Adds moisture and savory flavor to the filling while it simmers.
Bread crumbs
Form a crisp, browned topping during baking.

The step that matters

Blanch the peppers in boiling water for 3 minutes. Blanching softens the pepper walls so they bend and cook through during baking. Skipping it can leave the shells firm and the filling underdone by the time they are tender.

Swap the celery

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (pepper, olive, beef, onion, garlic, mushroom, chicken):

  1. Thymefits better
  2. Rosemaryfits better
  3. Cuminfits better
  4. Celerythe original

Fit is the average pairing score against pepper, olive, beef, onion, garlic, mushroom, chicken. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
