Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Spicy smoked sausage
Adds smoky, savory flavor and fat that seasons the broth as it cooks.
White beans
Add body and creamy texture, thickening the stew slightly as they break down.
Onion
Softens as it cooks, adding sweetness and a base layer of flavor.
Chicken broth
Provides the liquid that simmers the vegetables and beans into a cohesive stew.
Jalapeno pepper
Contributes heat and fresh, grassy pepper flavor to the stew.

The step that matters

Cook the vegetables until tender before adding the liquid. Sautéing the onion and aromatics until softened builds flavor and sweetness; adding broth too early traps raw, sharp notes and leaves the vegetables underdeveloped.

Swap the jalapeno
