Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Whites beaten stiff trap air, giving the omelet its light, puffy structure, while yolks add richness and set the body.
Cheese
Melts into the custard, adding richness and savory flavor and a golden surface when browned.
Bread crumbs
Absorb some of the liquid and help give the omelet a softer, more stable body.
Butter
Coats the pan so the omelet releases easily and browns the base with a rich flavor.

The step that matters

Folding the whites into the yolks. Beaten whites hold air that gives the omelet its lift. Stirring them in vigorously knocks that air out, so the omelet turns out flat and dense instead of light.
