What each ingredient does

Bulk pork sausage
Provides meaty flavor and fat, which drippings carry into the bread.
Dry bread cubes
Form the structure of the stuffing and soak up the liquid and drippings.
Apples
Add moisture and a sweet-tart note that balances the savory sausage.
Butter
Adds richness and helps the bread brown and taste savory as it bakes.
Raisins
Add chewy sweetness that contrasts with the savory bread and sausage.

The step that matters

Spoon stuffing loosely into the turkey. Packing stuffing tightly slows heat penetration, so the center may not reach a safe temperature before the bird is done. Loose filling also lets the stuffing expand and cook evenly.

Swap the apple
