Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Ground sirloin
Provides the savory meat filling that is browned and cooked before layering.
Cornbread mix (in the method)
Forms the batter layers whose starch sets and structure holds the filling when baked.
Salsa
Adds moisture and acidity that flavours the meat filling as it simmers.
Collard greens
Softens through long slow simmering, becoming tender as its tough fibres break down.

The step that matters

Cook the bottom layer completely before layering. If the bottom cornbread is underbaked, it stays soft and gummy and cannot support the filling, and the moist meat and salsa will make the base soggy during the final bake.
