Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Pork stir-fry strips
Provide the main protein, which browns to add savory flavor.
Celery
Adds crisp texture and fresh, mild flavor as it softens briefly in the skillet.
Onion
Softens and turns sweet as it cooks, building the base flavor of the dish.
Toasted pecan halves
Add a rich, nutty crunch and aroma when heated through at the end.

The step that matters

Browning the pork over high heat. Pork needs a hot, uncrowded pan to brown rather than steam. Browning builds deep flavor through the Maillard reaction, so cook in a single layer and avoid stirring too early.

Swap the clove

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (pork, celery, onion, garlic, pepper, rice):

  1. Thymefits better
  2. Parsleyfits better
  3. Cuminfits better
  4. Clovethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against pork, celery, onion, garlic, pepper, rice. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
